Cooking is a basic part of our daily lives. Small changes on that will have great effects. As Chef Enzo Febbraro, co-owner and executive chef of D’Acqua Ristorante once said, “Green cooking requires us to be a little more conscious about what we are doing in the kitchen”,  So how can we make efforts to reduce the carbon emission. Here we offer some tips to help you green your daily lives.

  • Tip 1 always remember to bring a re-useable bag when you go to shopping. Our planet just cannot afford much more white trash. In fact, use your own bags is not only environment-friendly, but also safe and healthy.
  • Tip 2 have green cleaning of your kitchen. Now many magic detergents have been put into the market. However, because of its water pollution, it is not perfect. Actually, with very few exceptions, most kitchens can be cleaned with water, vinegar and some other environmental-friendly products. A universal cleaner can be made at home. All you need are ½ cup of vinegar, ¼ cup of baking soda and ½ gallon of water. Mix them, and then an all-purpose cleaner is ready to be used.
  • Tip 3 choose natural food instead of processed food. You have no idea how many hazardous substances in them, especially in our country. Locally grown food should be your first choice.
  • Tip 4 when you replace some kitchen appliances, choose the one with an Energy Star label which means it is energy-saving.
  • Tip 5 keep your packaging down as much as possible. Some packages are just unnecessary. And remember to reuse them to reduce the pollution.
  • Tip 6 try not to use disposable product. At home, you can use cloth napkin and kitchen towels. Except in unavoidable circumstances, make use of some disposable products that are degradable.
  • Tip 7 conserve more water whenever possible. Although it is a renewable resource, today the water is becoming less and less. Never let the water runs in vain.
  • Tip 8 food waste is also considered as fertilizer. With the help of bacteria, they will break down and finally turn into fertile soil.
