Sprained ankle is very common for most people, it can happen while you are playing sports even when you are walking on the streets. Treatment for sprained ankle
Take off your shoes once you get sprained, and see how serious the injury is. Avoid the activity that caused the injury and stay off your feet if you see swelling or bruising around your ankle. Do not move with your injured foot and try to get help if necessary.
Back your injured foot with pillows, cushions to rest your ankle as comfortable as possible.
Wrap the ice with cloth bags or wet towel, and apply it on the injured area for 15-20 minutes 3-4 times daily for the first 3 days. Avoid direct contacts between the ice and your injured area in case of a cold injury.
Compress your joint. An elastic bandage is used to wrap your ankle from toes to the mid-calf with even pressure. Remember to stop once your toes become blue or feel numb. Do not to wrap your joint either too loose or too tight.
Make sure your injured foot is elevated above your heart. By doing this, the fluid will be drained from the injured ankle.
You should avoid hot baths or saunas since excessive amount of heat is bad for the healing of a sprained ankle. Also stay away from alcohol while your injury, as drinking alcohol will increase bleeding. The case is the same with massage.
Medicine such as aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen can be used to combat inflammation
It is recommended to perform simple exercises like circling your ankle or writing alphabetical letters with your toes as soon as you are not hurting, as it can quicken the recovery of the injury. But remember exercise with your foot elevated.
Seek medical help from your doctor if your ankle still suffers from severe pain after 24 hours.

Warming up before sports activities. Light jogging and some stretches are good choices of warming up which will increase the mobility of your body and prevent ankle sprains.
Wearing comfortable shoes. Choose the shoe that fit your size and makes you feel comfortable.
Having physical therapy. A professional physical therapist will help you strengthening your ankle and muscles with proper guidance. Then you’ll become less prone to ankle injuries.
