Best Tips for Your Dry Itchy Skin

Dry, itchy skin is annoying. The situation may become worse in the winter. To solve dry skin year-round, first you need to know the reasons why you skin tends to be dry, and then adopt measures to smooth it.

Reasons for Dry Skin in the Winter

In winter, low temperatures and humidity and strong, harsh winds deplete skin of its natural lipid layer, which keeps the skin from drying out. To keep your skin soft and supple, you should focus on keeping the moisture in, not adding moisture to skin. The following are tips for you to use.

Tip 1: Use Water Lukewarm, Not Hot
Hot water drains moisture out of skin, so it’s best to shower or wash hands in lukewarm water. If you cannot bear this rule, try to keep showers short and reduce the frequency to once per day. Do not take hot tubs too because hot water, together with chemicals, will be a torture on dry skin.

Tip 2: Moisturize After Showers or Hand Washing
If you skin feels tight and taut, you’d better add moisture. Moisture screams for your body, hands are all available in the market for you to choose.

Tip 3: Treat your Hands and Feet well
Hands and feet are the most vulnerable areas for dry, itchy skin. So put on moisturizer and gloves before heading outside, and go to sleep in a cotton socks with your feet covering with a thick layer of moisturizer. It will prevent dry, cracked skin. You can also use Saran Wrap to wrap your hands or feet which are thickly covered with moisturizer for softening skin. Remember do not take too long; a half-hour for hands, maybe couples hours for your feet.

Tip 4: Exfoliating Weekly or Semi-weekly
Moisturizer is much more effective on properly exfoliated skin. Salt or sugar could help you to exfoliate skin. Do exfoliating at least once a week. Here is an extra tip applying in winter. Use virgin coconut oil on your freshly cleansed face and massage the oil into the skin by a warm, wet washcloth. You can add sugar or salt into the oil to make your own scrub.

Tip 5: Apply facial Mask for Dry Skin
Do not wash your face with soap. Use a Cream Moisturizing Cleanser and do facial mask every week.

Tip 6: Lips Matter too
Licking your lips will only make the situation worse. A simple lip balm will solve your problem. Use it often since lips tend to be dry out more quickly.

Tip 7: Face Protection
If your skin is sensitive, you may want to avoid using tap water to cleanse your face since the minerals contain in the water dry skin. You may use bottled spring water or cold cream to cleanse your face.

Tip 8: Buy a Humidifier
Moisture in the air is of great importance to skin. A person lives in a desert may suffer dry, hot weather every day, so does the skin. So, if you live in a low-humidity climate, buy a humidifier. Remember to keep doors closed so the moist air doesn’t escape the room.

Tip 9: Add Moisture Through Fish Oil Pills

Researched show that fish oil pills works extremely well in moisturizing the skin. So take it into your consideration.
